Botox is one of our most popular services, yet there is an air of secrecy about it; meaning most clients don’t want to admit to using Botox. The stigma is lifting, but it’s really time to raise the veil, so to speak. “Aging gracefully” is a popular catch phrase and no one thinks twice if someone looks to eat clean, lose weight or dyes their hair. Botox is an extension of healthy living, in that it helps people feel confident and beautiful. Make-up and wrinkle creams are a part of most women’s beauty regimen and for the results Botox can give, it should be too.
What is Botox?
Botox is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of both moderate to severe wrinkle lines in adults.
How Does Botox Work?
Botox targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines, crow’s feet and horizontal forehead lines—the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years. Botox is injected to temporarily reduce muscle activity (think of it as a vacation for your facial muscles). This “rest” creates a visible smoothing of your crow’s feet lines and frown lines between the brows.
Wrinkles result from a combination of many factors. Part of what creates wrinkles is cellular changes as we age, reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals in the sun and the environment. Additionally, when we frown or concentrate, the muscles between our brows contract, causing our skin to furrow and fold. And when we squint, the muscles around our eyes contract and cause crow’s feet over time.
BOTOX is able to work beneath the skin’s surface and target the underlying muscle activity that causes frown lines and crow’s feet.
